We hope that your Summer has been treating you kindly, and that you are healthy and happy. In this newsletter, we want to spotlight the GI tract because it is of utmost importance to be functioning properly.  Your gut is where you absorb your nutrients, and it is estimated that 80-90% of your serotonin is in your digestive lining. 80% of your immune system resides in your your GI tract. The National Institutes of Health estimates that nearly ¼ of us (about 70 million) suffer from digestive issues. Symptoms of abnormal GI function are gas, bloating, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, and nausea. These symptoms pave the way towards an unbalanced inner-eco system, and potentially a leaky gut. These may lead to malnourishment, depression, poor immunity, and other health related conditions.

Factors that cause poor digestion

  • Food sensitivities
  • Inflammatory foods
  • Infections
  • Toxicity
  • Medications
  • Age
  • Stress

We work with the 4R program

1. Remove
We will remove the inflammatory foods, toxins, and potential irritants to calm down the inflammation and work on supporting the digestive lining.

2. Replace
We will then add back in soothing ingredients that help break down the pathogens, and stimulate digestion.

3. Reinoculate
There will be a restoration process where beneficial bacteria will be added in to reestablish a healthy balance of good bacteria.

4. Repair
The repair steps provides the nutrients necessary to help the gut repair itself through rejuvenating the lining of the gut wall.

We are here to guide you through this process.  Although the 4 steps are the same, everyone has unique needs, and the supplementation differs based on your body individually.  If you would like to learn more please schedule an appointment with Dr. Petropolus.
