We have all heard the age old question: What came first. the chicken or the egg? Pilates and chiropractic care can share the same analogy. What comes first: Aligning our bones and skeletal structure, or strengthening and balancing the muscles that support that structure? We need both to maintain a body that functions at an optimal level as we age. Chiropractic care is incredibly important in maintaining a skeletal structure that is aligned and balanced. Practicing Pilates regularly can help to develop the muscular support to help maintain that alignment in between adjustments.

Often Pilates is credited for creating a strong, stable core. While that is true, in addition to cultivating core strength, our approach is to create balance in the muscular structure of the body. We use Pilates as a tool to achieve that goal. By strengthening the support structures around each joint, we can create/maintain proper structural alignment. We all favor certain muscle groups over others which can lead to postural misalignments. Below is a picture of 4 different examples of spinal alignment. By practicing Pilates along with receiving regular chiropractic adjustments, you are adding another set of tools to your "body maintenance toolkit." We have to take care of this body, it's the only one we get!

Pilates can be helpful in managing the pain associated with herniated disks, scoleosis, spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia etc. Like chiropractors, all Pilates instructors are not created equal. If you are in the process of rehabilitation, or are practicing Pilates as an aid in pain management, search out an experienced practitioner with a strong background in anatomy and physiology. Private Pilates is also recommended so that your practitioner can maintain a constant eye on your alignment and form.

As you may know, we are now offering private Pilates sessions at Rejuvenate Wellness Center. Our practitioner, Lara, holds a BA in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology from the University of Colorado. She
has been practicing Pilates for 17 years and has been a full-time practitioner for the past 7 years. She is focused on creating a safe, effective regimen thoughtfully designed for each client. If you would like to schedule a Pilates session, or receive more information, please contact the front desk.
